So, I started this blog 2 years ago...I think I had 4 posts. I have gone ahead and hidden them since they're pretty much irrelevant now. Or not so much irrelevant as completely out of date and shows off my lack of ability to keep up with a blog.
Why do I stink at blogging? I have no time. I would LOVE to be able to blog more frequently, to write about what's going on in our life, what's going on in my head, what's going on in my heart, what I'm learning, etc. However, getting a PhD kinda has gotten in the way of that. Trust me, no regrets. I LOVE what I've been doing the past 4 years...almost as much as I LOVED what I did before.
Really, the past six years have been kind of a whirlwind! I graduated in April of 2005 and started working as a high school special education teacher. That September 28th, I met Matt. By May 19, 2006 we were engaged and got married March 3, 2007. All the time I was loving my job. However, when I graduated, I knew I eventually wanted to go into education research specifically for students with significant disabilities. I figured I'd wait 5-10 years before doing that. Well, two weeks before our wedding, I got a call from one of my professors telling me about an exciting ed research fellowship that sounded like it was right up my ally. Completely distracted by wedding planning, I had hardly any time to focus on getting my materials together to apply, but all the paperwork was due while we would be on our honeymoon. So, after the rehearsal dinner I finished getting my paperwork submitted and figured if it was a God thing, then it'd work out.
Well, apparently, it was. I came back from our honeymoon and had an interview the following week during my spring break. Shortly thereafter, one morning before the kids got to school, I got an e-mail saying that I was accepted. All along I said that if I got it, I'd do it. But let me tell you hard of a decision it was to leave a job I loved, the comfort of new marriage, and go back to being a full time PhD student will all the stresses that brings along with trying to maintain a healthy marriage.
Thank goodness for the amazing support of my husband and family. I went back to school...and here I am 4 years later, in the final stages of my Ph.D. program. Just this week I turned in my dissertation prospectus, which is the first three chapters of my dissertation. I will defend on August 25th, and hopefully I'll get the go ahead to do what I proposed. That will give me a good four months to finish the dissertation and defend before...well, I guess I'll save that for another post.
Anyway, the Countdown is On! Goal: Defend Dissertation by the End of 2011.
